Memorial Service for the Martyrs of Qamishly – St. Ephraim Cathedral, CA

January,13 2016

During the suicide bombings on the eve of the New Year, 13 Syriac Orthodox faithful were killed in Qamishly. During the Divine Liturgy conducted on Friday 1, 2016, the New Year‘s first day and circumcision of the Lord at St. Ephraim Cathedral, Burbank, His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan conducted a special memorial service for the martyrs of the suicide bombings. In his sermon, the Archbishop called the martyrs of the suicide bombings the ‘Christmas Martyrs’, comparing them to the innocent children of Bethlehem killed by Herod after the birth of Christ and spoke about the suffering of the Christians faithful and the entire church (the sacred body of Christ) experiencing the suffering of Christ in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and other countries in the Middle East…

May their souls rest in peace among the holy martyrs of Christ our Lord.
