Sister (Dayroyto) Maryam Hikary Entered Eternal Life

On Sunday July 27, 2014, Sister (Dayroyto) Maryam Hikary passed away in Damascus aged 67 after a long struggle with sickness.
On Tuesday July 29, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II presided over the burial service in the Church of St. Jacob Baradeus Monastery in Atchaneh – Lebanon. The service was attended by a large number of clergy and faithful who offered prayers for the resting of her soul and condolences to His Holiness and the sisters. Their Eminences: Mor Timotheos Aphrem Aboodi, Mo Philoxenus Matta Chamoun, Mor Theophilus Georges Saliba Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, Mor Severius Kuriakose, Mor Gregorius Kuriakose, Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh Metropolitan of Beirut, Mor Iwanios Kuriakose, Mor Silvanus Ayub, Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Shemoun Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Benevolent Institutions in Atchaneh, Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury Patriarchal Secretary and Mor Timotheos Matthew Patriarchal Secretary for the Indian Affairs were present along with many monks, priests and laity.

In his eulogy, His Holiness spoke of the virtues of the monks and nuns; in particular, he spoke of the good qualities of the late Sister Maryam. He also spoke of devotion and total dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ. He praised her qualities of self-giving and sacrifice for the love of Christ.

At the end of the service, the priests and monks carried the earthly remains of Sister Maryam amidst sorrow and tears.

Afterwards, His Holiness, the sisters and the relatives of the Late Sister Maryam received condolences in the big hall in the monastery

It was established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
