His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan participates in the ordination of 3 Bishops.
On February 28, 2024, His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene, the Metropolitan of the Western USA Archdiocese, arrived in Guatemala to join Mor Ignatius Aphrem II's apostolic visit and consecrate the Archdiocesan Cathedral and three bishops.

The same day earlier, His Holiness was received by his Eminence Mor Yacoub Eduardo, Archbishop of Central America, and clergy and seminarians.

On February 29, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Central America at the Archdiocesan Center in Guatemala.

Their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Yacoub Eduardo, Metropolitan of Central America, Mor Gregorius Joseph, Malankara Metropolitan, Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Metropolitan, Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of Western USA, Mor Theethose Yeldho, Metropolitan of the Malankara Archdiocese of North America, Mor Nicholas Matta Abdelahad, Metropolitan, Patriarchal Vicar of Spain, Mor Justinos Boulos Safar, Metropolitan, Patriarchal Vicar of Zahleh and Bekaa, Mor Dionysius John Kawak, Metropolitan, Patriarchal Vicar of the Eastern USA, Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Metropolitan of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs, and Mor Joseph Bali, Metropolitan, Patriarchal Assistant, were also present for the meeting.

His Holiness blessed the seminarians and encouraged them to learn more about the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and read the texts of the Church Fathers to preach the gospel as the first apostles did. He answered their questions, explaining the liturgy of our church as well as the role of the different cultures. He emphasized that faith manifests in our behavior and mentality despite the different cultures we belong to and live in. He described the various cultures within the church as a sign of richness and diversity, not weakness and disunity.

On February 29, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II consecrated St. Mary Cathedral in Guatemala City. His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences, the metropolitans mentioned above.

Election of three new bishops for the three bishoprics of Guatemala in the Central American Archdiocese.
The Holy Synod, held in June 2023, decided to create 3 new dioceses in Guatemala within the Archdiocese of Central America.

Three priests were elected for this office for the three dioceses:
Raban Marcos Manuel Caisedo Tenorio, to be the Bishop of Western Guatemala
Raban Andres Orlando Lopez Hernandes, to be the Bishop of Central Guatemala,
and Raban Wilfredo Jose Hortado Roez to be the Bishop of Northern Guatemala.

On March 1, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Divine Liturgy on the altar of St. Mary Cathedral in Guatemala.

During the Holy Divine Liturgy, His Holiness consecrated Very Rev. Raban Marcos Manuel Caisedo Tenorio, Bishop for Western Guatemala, and Very Rev. Raban Andres Orlando Lopez Hernandes, Bishop for Central Guatemala, and Raban Wilfredo Jose Hortado Roez, Bishop for Northern Guatemala.

His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences, the Metropolitans, who accompanied him.

During the Divine Liturgy, according to the rite of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, the new bishops signed their Orthodox Faith declaration before His Holiness the Patriarch. His Holiness prayed the prayer of the invocation of the Holy Spirit and the laying of hands on their heads and ordained them bishops. Then, His Holiness placed his right hand over their shoulders and declared thrice: "Axios (worthy)," while the crowd of faithful repeated the same each time.

After the Divine Liturgy, congratulations were offered to the new bishops.

Founding Board of the Syriac Orthodox University of Guatemala
On Sunday, March 3, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Divine Liturgy at V. Mary Church in Guatemala. The Holy Divine Liturgy was attended by the faithful from the Syrian Community in Guatemala.

The patriarch was assisted by their Eminences Metropolitans: Mor Dionysius John Kawak, Patriarchal Vicar of the Eastern Archdiocese USA, and Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury of Hama, Tartous, and Environs, in the presence of their Eminences the Metropolitans who attended the events, also the newly ordained bishops: Mor Marcos Manuel Caisedo of Western Guatemala, Mor Andres Orlando Lopez of Central Guatemala, and Mor Jose Wilfredo Hortado of Northern Guatemala.

On the evening of March 3, 2024, at the Archdiocesan Center in Guatemala, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met the Founding Board of the Syriac Orthodox University of Guatemala.

Their Eminences Metropolitans Mor Yacoub Eduardo of Central America, Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Patriarchal Vicar of the Western Archdiocese USA, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Assistant, were also present in the meeting.

Visit of His Holiness, the patriarch, and his accompanied metropolitans to the Museum Popol Vuh and the Marroquin Francisco University.
On Monday, March 4, the day before his departure, His Holiness the Patriarch and the Metropolitans arrived at the Popol Vuh Museum situated on the campus of the Universidad Francisco Marroquin.

The Maya civilization, which inhabited present-day Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and parts of Mexico, left its indelible mark on culture, science, and world history. In the 16th century, the influence of the art and beliefs of the Spanish conquistadors transformed the artistic expressions of the inhabitants of these lands to delve into the knowledge of Guatemala's cultural identity.

Following this, personnel from Francisco Marroquin University showed the group the facilities of Marroquin Francisco University (UFM). The person made a short tribute to His Holiness and took him to the library, where he had a particular highlight of the first encyclopedia ever written: the encounter with ancient writings in Aramaic/Syriac.

مساء يوم الأربعاء ٢٨ شباط ٢٠٢٤، وصل قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني مع الوفد المرافق له إلى جواتيمالا، حيث كان في استقباله في مطار جواتيمالا الدولي صاحب النيافة مار يعقوب أدواردو، مطران أميركا الوسطى، وحشد من الإكليروس والمؤمنين.

قداسة سيدنا البطريرك يلتقي الطلاب الإكليريكيين في غواتيمالا
صباح الجمعة ٢٩ شباط ٢٠٢٤، اجتمع قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني بالطلاب الإكليريكيين في أبرشية أميركا الوسطى، وذلك في مقرّ المطرانية في غواتيمالا.

خلال اللقاء، بارك قداسة سيدنا البطريرك الإكليريكيين وشجّعهم على محبة العلم وخاصة التعرّف على الكنيسة السريانية الأرثوذكسية الأنطاكية، وقراءة كتابات الآباء ليتمكنوا من التبشير بالإنجيل كما فعل الرسل الأولون. ثم أجاب قداسته عن الأسئلة التي طرحها الإكليريكيون شارحاً الطقوس الكنسية ودورها في مختلف الثقافات. كما شدّد على أنّ الإيمان يظهر في التصرّفات والأعمال بالرغم من اختلاف الثقافات التي ننتمي إليها أو نعيش فيها. كذلك، وصف التنوّع الثقافي بالغنى وليس دلالة ضعف أو غياب وحدة.

بعد ظهر يوم الخميس ٢٩ شباط ٢٠٢٤، احتفل قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني بتقديس كاتدرائية السيدة العذراء مريم في مدينة جواتيمالا.
عاون قداسته أصحاب النيافة المطارنة الأجلاء الذين جاؤوا ليشاركوا في أحداث أبرشية جواتيمالا المهمة.

انتخاب ثلاثة أساقفة جدد للأسقفيات الثلاث في جواتيمالا لأبرشية أميركا الوسطى
خلال انعقاد المجمع المقدس في حزيران ٢٠٢٣ المنصرم، قرّر آباء المجمع المقدّس استحداث ثلاث اسقفيات في جواتيمالا ضمن أبرشية أميركا الوسطى. وعليه، تمّ انتخاب:
الربان مرقس مانويل كايسيدو تينوريو ليكون أسقفاً لأسقفية جواتيمالا الغربية،
والربان أندريَس أورلاندو لوبيز هرنانديز ليكون أسقفًا لأسقفية جواتيمالا الوسطى،
والربان ويلفريدو خوسيه هورتادو رويز ليكون أسقفًا لأسقفية جواتيمالا الشمالية.

وفي صباح يوم الجمعة الأول من آذار ٢٠٢٤، احتفل قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني بالقداس الإلهي في كاتدرائية السيدة العذراء مريم في جواتيمالا.
‎وخلال القداس الإلهي، قام قداسته برسامة الآباء المنتخبين أساقفة للأسقفيات الثلاث في أبرشية أميركا الوسطى.

‎عاون قداستَه في القداس الإلهي جميع أصحاب النيافة المطارنة الأجلاء الذين جاؤوا خصيصاً ليشاركوا بفرحة هذه الرسامة المباركة.

‎وخلال القداس الإلهي، وبحسب التقليد المتّبع في كنيستنا السريانية الأرثوذكسية، أعلن المرتسمون الجدد "إقرار إيمانهم" ووقّعوه أمام قداسته. ثمّ تلا قداسته على المرتسمين صلاة حلول الروح القدس ثم صلاة وضع اليد حيث وضع قداسته يمينه على هامتهم ورقّاهم إلى درجة الأسقفية. وكما وضع قداسته يده على كتفهم مناديًا ثلاث مرّات أكسيوس (مستحق)، فردّد الشعب المناداة بعد قداسته.

صباح يوم الأحد ٣ آذار ٢٠٢٤، احتفل قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني بالقدّاس الإلهي في كنيسة السيدة العذراء مريم في جواتيمالا. وقد حضر القداس أبناء الجالية السريانية من سورية في جواتيمالا.

‎عاون قداسته صاحبا النيافة المطرانان: مار ديونيسيوس جان قواق، النائب البطريركي لأبرشية شرقي الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، ومار تيموثاوس متى الخوري، مطران حمص وحماة وطرطوس وتوابعها، بحضور أصحاب النيافة المطارنة الأجلاء، وأصحاب السيادة الأساقفة الجدد: مار مرقس مانويل كايسيدو أسقف غواتيمالا الغربية، ومار أندراوس أورلاندو لوبيز أسقف غواتيمالا الوسطى، ومار خوسيه ويلفريدو هورتادو أسقف غواتيمالا الشمالية.

بعد ظهر يوم الأحد ٣ آذار ٢٠٢٤، اجتمع قداسة سيدنا البطريرك مار إغناطيوس أفرام الثاني بالمجلس التأسيسي للجامعة السريانية الأرثوذكسية في جواتيمالا، وذلك في مقرّ المطرانية في سانتيجو، جواتيمالا.

‎حضر الاجتماع أصحاب النيافة المطارنة الأجلاء: مار يعقوب أدواردو، مطران أميركا الوسطى، ومار إقليميس أوكين قبلان، النائب البطريركي لأبرشية غربي الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، ومار يوسف بالي، المعاون البطريركي.

خلال اللقاء، تعرّف قداسة سيدنا البطريرك على المؤسسين الذين يهتمّون بتسجيل الجامعة والحصول على الترخيص الرسمي لانطلاقها. فاستمع منهم عن المراحل الأولى التي مرّت بها الجامعة وتصميمها والخطة التدريسية التي وضعها المؤسسون لفتح الكليات العلمية والتدريس في الجامعة.

زيارة قداسة البطريرك والوفد المرافق له إلى متحف بوبول فوه وجامعة فرانسيسكو ماروكين.
في يوم الاثنين 4 مارس، أي قبل يوم من رحيله، وصل قداسة البطريرك والمتروبوليتيون إلى متحف بوبول فوه الواقع في حرم جامعة فرانسيسكو ماروكين.

تركت حضارة المايا التي سكنت غواتيمالا وبليز وهندوراس وأجزاء من المكسيك الحالية بصماتها التي لا تمحى على الثقافة والعلوم وتاريخ العالم. في القرن السادس عشر، أدى تأثير فن ومعتقدات الغزاة الإسبان إلى تحويل التعبيرات الفنية لسكان هذه الأراضي للتعمق في معرفة الهوية الثقافية لغواتيمالا.

بعد ذلك، قام موظفون من جامعة فرانسيسكو موروكين بتعريف المجموعة على مرافق جامعة ماروكين فرانسيسكو (UFM). رحب الشخص المسؤول بقداسة البطريرك واصطحبه إلى المكتبة، حيث سلط الضوء بشكل خاص على أول موسوعة تمت كتابتها على الإطلاق، وفيها التقى قداسته مع الكتابات القديمة باللغة الآرامية/السريانية.
