Prayer Moment at the Vatican with Patriarch Aphrem II and Pope FrancisJune,23 2015On Friday June 19, 2015, their Holinesses Pope Francis and Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met for a Prayer Moment at "Redemptoris Mater Chapel" in the Vatican. His Beatitude Mor Baselius Thomas I, Catholicose of India, also participated in this prayer as well as His Beatitude Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Syriac Catholic Patriarch of Antioch.
The members of the delegation: their Eminences Archbishops Mor Theophilose George Saliba, Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli and General Secretary of the Holy Synod, Mor Gregorios Joseph, Metropolitan of Cochin and Secretary of the Regional Synod in India, Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Patriarchal Vicar in Western United States, Mor Theophilose Kuriakose, Mor Justinos Boulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar in Zahleh and Beqaa, Mor Philoxenos Mattias Nayis, Patriarchal Vicar in Germany, Mor Dionysios Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Assistant, Very Rev Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary, Rev Fr Shanu Paulose, and Rev Dn George Kiraz.
The two pontiffs prayed for the Martyrs of the Syriac Genocide Sayfo and for peace in the Middle East and the unity of churches.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch,
providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox
community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization
comprised of 18 churches and parishes in 17 western states. It was
established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church
encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by
the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively
serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
