His Eminence Celebrates the Feast of St. Elijah with St. Elias church-San BernardinoJuly,21 2014On Sunday July 20, 2014, His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan celebrated the Holy Divine Liturgy in with St. Elias the prophet congregation of San Bernardino, assisted by Rev. Fr. John saif the priest, deacons and choir of the church. During his sermon, His Eminence did compared the people in the time of St. Elijah prophet and present time, spoke especially on the persecution of Middle East and in Iraq in particular. In his speech stated, “According to local reports of Christians have been told by those in control of Mosul ISIS, to either convert to Islam, pay the Jizya (poll tax for non-Muslims) or leave the city. On failing to take these steps Christians are faced with threats of execution. Currently a number of Christians have taken refuge in neighboring monasteries and villages, as well as in the Kurdish region of Iraq…” and he continued spoke on great prophet Elijah, especially his eagerness and zeal to protect the house of the Lord, and the archbishop asked the intersession of the prophet for whole people of God in both homeland and out of it...
Following the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence invited by the priest and Parish Council to share the love meal of St. Elijah Prophet Feast.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch,
providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox

established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church
