New Congregation in Porterville area.

Fulfilling the request of the community residing in Porterville. On Saturday, June 25, 2022, His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Patriarchal Vicar of the Western Archdiocese USA, paid a visit to the community and met the parishioners in Porterville. A large number of them attended. His Eminence also invited Rev. Fr. Elias Sattah, our priest of St. Anthony, Bakersfield.

The meeting started with the Lord's prayer and the blessing of His Eminence. Rev. Fr. Elias Sattah welcomed His Eminence on behalf of the community members. Then, His Eminence the Archbishop delivered an influential spiritual speech in which he blessed the determination of the community's faithful and their desire to establish a church for them and encouraged them and expressed his willingness to support them. In his speech, his Eminence talked about the church and its founder, the Lord Jesus, and His role in our spiritual and social life, since we are His sacred Body and temple of the Holy Spirit… and as one family of God, raising children and adhering to the Lord Jesus. He also clarified the role of the administrative board, parish council, and organizations of the church and its institutions according to the bylaws of the Syriac Orthodox Church. He called them to form the Parish Council and the Ladies Auxiliary of those who find themselves worthy of this great service. His Eminence announced the name of the newly established church in Porterville: Virgin Mary, Mother of the Light. His Eminence set its official feast on September 8 each year after the birthday of the Virgin Mary, the patron of the church's faithful, and the church's founding feast on June 25, which is the date of this founding meeting.

Some community members submitted their names to be members of the Parish Council. His Eminence approved, blessed them and wished them successful service for the congregation's growth. The same applies to the Ladies Auxiliary.

His Eminence appointed Rev. Fr. Elias Sattah as a priest for the newly established Virgin Mary, Mother of the Light church.

The meeting followed by the agapy meal was prepared by a faithful lady of the community. After that, His Eminence the Metropolitan gathered the members of the new parish council and told them about the nature of their work and service and the bylaws related to them and directed, encouraged, and blessed them so that their work would be an honest service stemming from love, harmony, and faith. The meeting ended after his Eminence answered the questions received from some of the members.

دوّن الأب الفاضل الياس سطاح كاهن رعية مار أنطونيوس في بيكرسفيلد، أحداث زيارة نيافة الحبر الجليل مار اقليميس أوجين لمؤمني مدينة بورترفيل بقصد تأسيس رعية جديدة في الأبرشية، ما يلي:


بتاريخ ٢٥/٦/٢٠٢٢ وبناءً على طلب أبناء الجالية المقيمين في بورترفيل. قام نيافة الحبر الجليل مار اقليميس أوكين قبلان النائب البطريركي لأبرشية الولايات الغربية من الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية الجزيل الوقار بزيارة رعوية وقد اجتماعاً لأبناء الرعية في بورترفيل حضره عدد غفير منهم كما حضر الاجتماع الأب الياس سطاح. وبعد الصلاة الربانية ومباركة صاحب النيافة المجتمعين رحب الأب الياس سطاح بصاحب النيافة نيابة عن أبناء الجالية وبناءً على طلبهم، ثم ألقى نيافة المطران كلمة روحية مؤثرة بارك بها همة أبناء الجالية ورغبتهم بتأسيس كنيسة لهم وشجعهم، وأبدى استعداده لدعمهم كما تحدث فيها عن الكنيسة ومؤسسها الرب يسوع ودورها الروحي والاجتماعي الفاعل في بناء الإنسان والعائلة وتربية الأولاد والالتصاق بالرب يسوع، كما تحدث عن التقسيمات الإدارية للكنيسة ومؤسساتها بحسب قانون الكنيسة السريانية الأرثوذكسية، ودعاهم لتشكيل المجلس الملي ومجلس السيدات من خلال تلبيته لرغبة من يجد نفسه أهلاً لهذه الخدمة الجليلة.

بعدها تقدم عدد من أبناء الجالية بأسمائهم ليكونوا أعضاء في المجلس الملي. وكذلك الأمر بالنسبة للسيدات الحاضرات ووافق نيافته على هذا وشكل المجلسين وباركهم.

وعيّن نيافته الأب الياس سطاح كاهناً للكنيسة المزمع تأسيسها بناءً على رغبة مشتركة من الجميع كما سمّى الكنيسة باسم (كنيسة العذراء مريم أم النور). وحدّد عيدها الرسمي بالثامن من أيلول في كل عام تيمناً بعيد ميلاد السيدة العذراء، لتكون شفيعةً لأبناء الكنيسة، وعيد تأسيس الكنيسة في الخامس والعشرين من شهر حزيران وهو موعد هذا الاجتماع التأسيسي لها.

بعد ذلك جمع نيافة المطران أعضاء المجلس الملي المؤسس وحدثهم عن طبيعة عملهم وخدمتهم والقانون الكنسي المتعلق بهم ووجههم وشجعهم وباركهم ليكون عملهم خدمة حقيقية نابعة من محبة ووفاق وإيمان، وانتهى الاجتماع بعد أن أجاب نيافته عن الأسئلة الواردة من بعض الأعضاء. وبارك صاحب النيافة المجتمعين جميعاً.
