The true meaning of the word in your Holy Bible December,7 2022Hallelujah ܗܠܠܘܝܗ is the kind of word that elicits joy and happiness when it’s said aloud. If you look back through, the Book of Revelation proclaims vigorously: "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for true and just are his judgments" (Rev. 19:1). We see Hallelujah ܗܠܠܘܝܗ being used as an English word, but historically it’s not — it’s Aramaic/Hebrew. So, the question is — what does this word really mean?
Packing a punch with just one word.
The word Hallelujah (הללויה ܗܠܠܘܝܗ) is a compound word, or two individual Hebrew words brought together: “Hallelu” (ܗܠܠܘ הללו) and “Yah” (ܝܗיה).
“Hallelu ܗܠܠܘ” is a call to a group of people to praise someone or something. “Yah” is an abridged version of “YHVH” (ܝܗܘܗ יהוה) or Jehovah, the Lord’s most sacred name.
When put together, these two words pack a big punch — it is an extremely concise exhortation which, in English, would be translated as: “Hey, everyone! Let’s praise the Lord!” In the original Aramaic/Hebrew, you only need a single word to say all of this.
This is the reason why billions of faithful Jews and Christians from around the world, whatever their mother tongues, continue to pray using the sacred Aramaic/Hebrew word Hallelujah ܗܠܠܘܝܗ.
