In a gathering marked by camaraderie, reflection, and shared purpose, the clergy of the Archdiocese of Western USA convened for their periodic meeting on August 15, 2023. The event, held at St. Ephraim Cathedral meeting room, Burbank, brought together priests from various local churches within the Archdiocese.
The clergy meeting provided a valuable platform for spiritual enrichment, dialogue, and exchanging ideas. Under the leadership of His Eminence Metropolitan Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, the gathering emphasized the importance of fostering unity among the clergy and strengthening their collective mission to serve the faithful.
His Eminence opened the session with a special prayer. Then His Eminence began by welcoming everyone, especially congratulating Rev. Fr. Elias Sattah for acquiring the faithful of St. Anthony a physical building to be their church.
The meeting's agenda included discussions on a wide range of topics relevant to the clergy's pastoral responsibilities and the broader challenges faced by the community. From addressing contemporary issues to exploring opportunities for community engagement, the meeting served as a forum for productive conversations to deepen the clergy's connection with their congregations.
During the meeting, His Eminence delivered an inspiring keynote address on the assumption feast of the Virgin Mary and about what our children are facing in the schools, matters that disturb the Church, such as those who study in schools what contradict the words of the Lord in His Holy Book and how to deal with them, and underscored the significance of a unified vision for the Archdiocese's future for the clergy. He encouraged the clergy to continue their vital role as spiritual leaders, offering guidance and support to the members of their congregations.
As the meeting concluded, the clergy members had a renewed sense of purpose and dedication. His Eminence expressed his gratitude for the commitment and hard work of the clergy and reminded them of the pivotal role they play in shaping the spiritual landscape of the Archdiocese.
The clergy meeting of the Archdiocese of Western USA served as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the clergy community and its unwavering commitment to nurturing its congregants' spiritual growth and well-being. With a strengthened sense of unity and purpose, the clergy members are poised to continue their impactful work serving their communities.
The meeting ended with a closing prayer from His Eminence. Everyone enjoyed the gathering and the lunch offered on this occasion.

The Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch,
providing spiritual guidance and leadership to the Syriac Orthodox
community, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization
comprised of 18 churches and parishes in 17 western states. It was
established in 1952 as the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church
encompassing the entire United States and Canada. In November 1995 by
the Holy Synod, the Western Archdiocese was formed to exclusively
serve the 17 states of the western half United States.
